“Brussels the ugly”
When
speaking to some locals, they all pretty much said the same ‘Brussels might a litle ugly, but we
love it’. They explained this is because it is not uncommon to find terrible looking apartments next to beautiful buildings or museums. This clash
of architectural styles is where this saying comes from. People in Brussels are
also really proud of their fries, so much they asked me to not refer to them as
just fries (I didn’t dare to call them “French Fries” but I’m pretty sure they
would get mad if I did) but Belgium fries, and laughing afterwards. People in
here are somehow goofier than other cities, and are proud of being different,
they are also used to speaking different languages so most of them time when
speaking to the locals they would change languages without even noticing and
then had to start over when they realized I was lost in the conversation. I know it’s only been a couple of days but I
can already feel myself revitalized by this trip. It is definitely a little
weird since I’ve always enjoyed traveling but have never really done it as a
pleasure thing. In my previous line of work I got to travel all over South
America, but it is different now. Having all this time has allowed me to
discover some things about myself, like how much I can enjoy just sitting in a
place watching the sunset or looking at a particular landscape. I kind of fell
in love with Brussels a little bit, they have chocolate, really good beer and moules-frites, I can’t think of anything
else I’d want in a city.
What’s not to love about this place?
There was a big gay parade coming up, this is the city showing their support to the gay community by showing their colors in many different parts of the city
One of the best landscapes I had a chance to see
